New Wood Innovation Research Lab Case Study

November 21, 2018

As one of the first Passive House certified industrial buildings in North America, the University of Northern British Columbia’s (UNBC) Wood Innovation Research Lab (WIRL) in Prince George, B.C., demonstrates the benefits of wood use. The building provides an opportunity to study ways to integrate wood into more structural designs for industrial buildings. The superstructure is composed of glue-laminated columns and beams and the external walls are framed with wood trusses. UNBC will use WIRL to showcase the potential for mass timber construction and will continue to study the building over the coming years.
