Building a Community: Upper Skeena Recreation Centre

This video tells the story of how the Upper Skeena community worked together to make this project a reality and the positive impact it brought to the municipality of Hazelton, BC as a result of its completion. The video makes a case that other communities in BC can undertake similar wood infrastructure projects to replace aging facilities with a design/build that results in considerable cost savings to the community compared to a traditional building plan. This recreation centre was made possible by the vision and collaboration of the local, regional, and Gitxsan governments, and by the work of BC Wood, who engaged Hemsworth Architects and Equilibrium Consulting with developing a wood construction, multi-function building design.
