Timber Tech Connect

Timber Tech Connect offers a close-up view of the latest innovations in timber design, showcasing individuals leading advancements in wood-based architecture, engineering, and construction. In 2025, the Timber Tech Connect events focus on highlighting projects within the B.C. Mass Timber Demonstration Program (MTDP).

Project feature: Vienna House

This video focuses on Vienna House, a seven-storey, 123-unit affordable housing project located in East Vancouver, B.C. The project is designed as a mass timber and light-frame wood hybrid structure, making it an efficient and replicable typology. The project takes advantage of mass timber’s thermal mass and natural insulating benefits, and is on schedule to become Passive House certified. The hybrid structural system—featuring cross-laminated timber (CLT) panels, cold-formed steel (CFS) and prefabricated wall systems—minimizes waste, shortens construction time, and delivers precise assembly. The project also highlights the ingenuity of B.C.-based manufacturers and the use of locally sourced engineered wood, reinforcing the province’s leadership in prefabrication and mass timber innovation.
