Traditionally, sport arenas built using structural timber required custom designs. Structures built using lumber were not a viable option for long span structures. These buildings were hard to accurately budget for, and a lot of projects ended up being expensive.
Over the last decade or so, improvements in the B.C. timber industry and engineering have changed what we can achieve with wood. Today, B.C. communities can build a hockey arena they can be proud of, using local labour and local material, a building that is durable, beautiful and cost-effective. Two of the products that have made this possible are glulam and CLT.
