The Tall Tree Integrated Health Centre, which houses a physiotherapy clinic and ceramics studio, is the newest addition to Mattick’s Farm, a small-scale commercial centre with a focus on local produce, crafts and services. It reinforces the built fabric and social character of the community, while at the same time exploring a new and more intimate relationship between users of the building and the natural environment in which it is set.
The extensive use of wood throughout the building, as both a structural and finish material, is central to its design. Both the roof and shear walls are constructed from cross-laminated timber panels, made up of multiple layers of locally harvested wood manufactured in British Columbia.
