Sustainable Forests

Boughton Island, Central Coast of British Columbia
British Columbia is a global leader in sustainable forest management. It is unique among the world’s leading forest producers because 95% of its land base is publicly owned, and forest activities on public land must follow strict forest management laws. Of the province’s total land base, 13.8% is fully protected with an additional 13% designated for special management, which means values such as wildlife habitat or scenic vistas take precedence over logging. A fraction of one per cent of British Columbia’s forests is logged each year.
