A Carbon-Neutral Canadian Forest Industry by 2015

Canada’s forest products industry aims to be carbon neutral by 2015, without having to buy carbon offset credits. To achieve this commitment, it will:
- Reduce direct and indirect emissions through activities such as switching to a renewable energy source (e.g. biomass), increasing cogeneration opportunities, adopting, energy-efficient technologies and finding ways to divert forest products from landfills.
- Increase sequestration in forests through landscape planning and innovative silvicultural practices.
- Increase the pool of carbon stored in the value chain and minimize emissions from end-of-life disposal through recovery and recycling of paper and wood products.
- Promote an understanding of the carbon implications of wood-based materials in relation to available substitutes.
